SFP optical module detailed knowledge
SFP optical module the full name is Small Form-factor Pluggsable, that is: a small hot-pluggable optical transceiver module. The volume of the SFP optical module is half smaller than that of the GBIC optical module, and the number of ports can be more than doubled on the same panel. The other functions of the SFP module are basically the same as those of the GBIC. Some switch manufacturers call SFP optical modules a miniaturized GBIC (MINI-GBIC).
SFP optical module Classification:
Rate:155M、1.25G、2.5G、4.25G Rate: 155M, 1.25G, 2.5G, 4.25G
Wavelength: short, medium, long
Transmission mode: electrical port, single-mode (SM), multi-mode (MM)
Special Types of SFP Optical Modules:
BIDI-SFP: Single-fiber bidirectional SFP, using WDM technology, transmits and receives different center wavelengths in two directions, so as to realize bidirectional transmission of optical signals with one fiber.
The BIDI optical module has only one port, which is filtered by the filter in the optical module, and simultaneously transmits 1310 optical signals and receives 1550 nm optical signals, or vice versa. Therefore, BIDI optical modules must be used in pairs.

Copper SFP: Electrical port SFP optical module, using SFP package, electrical port module, can support a maximum transmission distance of 100m (RJ45, Category 5 twisted pair is the transmission medium).
CWDM SFP: Using CWDM technology, the optical signals of different wavelengths can be compounded together through an external wavelength division multiplexer, and transmitted through a single fiber, thereby saving fiber resources. At the same time, the receiving end needs to use a wavelength division multiplexer to decompose the complex optical signal. CWDM SFP optical modules are divided into 18 bands, ranging from 1270nm to 1610nm, and the interval between each two bands is 20nm. Generally, optical modules of different bands are distinguished by color.

DWDM SFP: It belongs to dense wavelength division multiplexing technology, which can couple light of different wavelengths into single-core fibers and transmit them together. The channel interval of DWDM SFP has different intervals such as 0.4nm, 0.8nm, 1.6nm, etc. according to the needs, and the interval is small. , Requires additional wavelength control devices. A key advantage of DWDM SFP is that its protocol and transmission speed are independent.
